Box Score Greenville, S.C. – A balanced offensive attack and solid defense led Furman to a 16-2 win over Presbyterian College on Wednesday night inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Paladins to 1-1 on the year, while the loss drops the Blue Hose to 0-2.
Ten different Paladins registered in the scoring column, with Paige Gamble and Ashley Trice leading the way with three. Furman also got assists from eight different players, with Sophie Brennan and Kristine Knowles leading with two each. The Paladins out-shot PC 38-8, and was 17-19 on clear attempts. Gamble also led with eight draw controls, while Devon Horine added five and scored the Paladins only free position goal.
Furman opened the game with three goals in the game's first two minutes scored by three different Paladins. Both teams were held scoreless for the next 20 minutes, before Cady Roberts scored PC's only goal of the half, cutting the Furman lead to 3-1. The Paladins responded with three-straight goals to end the half, as three different Paladins again netted goals to give Furman the 6-1 halftime lead.
Six-straight goals by the Paladins to start the second half stretched the lead to 12-1, before the Blue Hose got a goal from Lauren Schaaf to cut the Paladin lead to ten at 12-2. Furman then got back-to-back goals from Gamble and two more from Trice and Gaby Susz to give the Paladins the 16-2 victory.
The Paladins return to action on Sunday, February 26, hosting Vanderbilt in a 12:00 p.m. game in Paladin Stadium.
