Paladins Come Up Short At Chattanooga, 66-43

Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Lakelyn Bouldin scored 18 points and Chattanooga used a strong second quarter to take the lead on the way to a 66-43 victory over Furman in Southern Conference women's basketball action Thursday evening at McKenzie Arena.

The win earned Chattanooga (17-10, 11-2 SoCon) the season series split with Furman (14-15, 7-6 SoCon), avenging a 65-48 loss to the Paladins in Greenville on Jan. 28, and pushed the Mocs back into a first place tie with Mercer.

Bouldin, a freshman guard, connected on all four of UTC's 19 3-point attempts to spark the Mocs, who trailed 15-10 after the first quarter before fashioning a 17-0 run to start the second period for a 27-15 advantage.

UTC led 36-26 midway through the third period when Furman crafted a 10-2 spurt to get within 38-36 following a pair of Cierra Carter free throws with 2:04 to go.  The Mocs quickly answered, however, behind Bouldin, whose two 3-pointers keyed a 8-0 finish to the quarter to give Chattanooga a 46-36 lead.

The fourth quarter was all UTC as the Mocs outscored Furman, 20-7.

Jasmine Joyner contributed 15 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks for UTC, which shot 43.1 percent from the field  (25x58).

Carter paced Furman with 15 points, and Le'Jzae Davidson finished with 13 on the strength of 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Paladins wrap up the regular season at ETSU on Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. game, needing a win over the Bucs to claim the No. 3 seed heading into SoCon Tournament play, which gets underway Mar. 2 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C.
