GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior Bryce Howell (E) carded a final round 76 to tie for 27th place to lead the Furman men's golf team Sunday in the final day of the 48th Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
Howell birdied No. 5 and No. 12 to finish the round at even par. Sophomore Connor Bruns (+6) scored a 73 with three birdies to tie for 66th, and freshman Keller Harper (+10) and junior Hunter Nichols (+10) tied for 92nd. Harper birdied No. 2 and No. 11, while Nichols added three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 1 and No. 2. Freshman Stephen Reynolds (+26) birdied No. 5 and No. 11 on Sunday.
Sophomore Garrison Hogan (+3), Furman's top individual, paced the Paladins with a 71 in the final round. Hogan scored a team-high six birdies, with birdies on five out of six holes from No. 1 through No. 6, to tie for 48th. Freshman Stephen Cerbara (+6) added a 73 with three birdies in the final round to tie for 66th.
Clemson's Carson Young (-11) won individual medalist honors with a three-day total of 70-68-67=205.
17th-ranked Clemson (-29) won the tournament and set a new Furman Intercollegiate record with a three-round score of 835. USC Aiken (-15), who is ranked 18th in Division II, finished second, while Chattanooga (-9) and Georgia Southern (-9) ied for third. Wofford (-3) completed the top five. Furman (+25) finished in 18th place.
The Paladins will compete at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, S.C., April 7-9.
