Dayton Blanks Furman Soccer In Wolstein Classic, 1-0

Box Score

Columbus, Ohio -- Dayton found the back of the net in the final five minutes of the first half and held on to down Furman men's soccer, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Bert & Iris Wolstein Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Field in Columbus, Ohio.

Laurel Aug served a cross behind the Paladin back line to Trey Marchino, who tucked his shot away at the 40:22 mark to put the Flyers (1-0-1) in front despite Furman managing a 7-5 edge in shots in the first half.

The Paladins (1-1-0) continued to pour on the pressure in the second half, but Dayton's Federico Barrios stopped two second half shots and finished with five saves to earn the shutout. Furman posted a 14-9 advantage in total shots and registered a 5-4 margin in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Ben Hale notched three saves for Furman.

Furman returns to action on August 31, when it travels to face the Charlotte 49ers. The home opener at Stone Soccer Stadium is slated for September 8, versus Presbyterian.
