Charlotte Blanks Men's Soccer, 2-0

Charlotte, N.C. -- Charlotte netted a pair of second half goals to down the Furman men's soccer team, 2-0, in non-conference competition Friday night at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N.C.

With the victory, the 49ers improved to 2-0-0 on the season, while the Paladins slipped to 1-2-0.

A foul in the box led to a 49er penalty kick in the 65th minute and Callum Montgomery stepped up to bury his opportunity to break the scoreless draw. Charlotte's Tommy Madden doubled the margin less than five minutes before full time when he scored with his left foot on assists from Daniel Bruce and Joe Brito.

The 49ers compiled a 13-5 edge in total shots and posted a 6-3 edge in shots on goal against the Paladins.

Elliott Panicco stopped three shots to notch the shutout for Charlotte, while Ben Hale recorded four saves in a losing effort for the Paladins.

Furman concludes its season-opening, four-game road trip when it visits Davidson on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before returning to Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium to entertain Presbyterian in the home opener on Saturday, September 8, at 7 p.m. The home opener will also serve as the annual Quinn Game.
