Greenville, S.C. – Furman women's soccer will look to maintain its hold on first place in the Southern Conference standings when it hosts ETSU on Friday night and Western Carolina Sunday afternoon on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.
Friday's "Pups at the Pitch" match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Fans are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends to Stone Stadium and can register for a free Furman dog scarf.
The Paladins enter the weekend at 8-4-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SoCon following a 2-0 victory over VMI last Sunday. Redshirt freshman
Kyndal Anderson, the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Paladins with seven goals, while sophomore
Isabella Gutierrez and freshman
Jasmine Greene have each added three goals and six assists. Sophomore
Erin Houlihan has tallied five goals in 13 matches.
Furman's defense is riding a streak of three consecutive shutouts and has surrendered just 13 goals in 13 matches this season. Senior
Arianna Milicia was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Paladins post shutouts of UNCG and VMI this past weekend.
Friday's match will be the 16
th meeting between the Paladins and Buccaneers with Furman holding a 13-2-0 series lead. ETSU (4-6-3, 0-2-1 SoCon) claimed a 1-0 victory over the Paladins in Johnson City, Tenn., last season after Furman captured a pair of victories versus the Bucs in Greenville during the 2017 campaign.
Sunday's 2 p.m. kickoff versus Western Carolina (7-5-0, 1-2-0 SoCon) marks the 27
th all-time meeting versus the Catamounts. Furman holds an 18-7-1 series lead and avenged a 3-1 regular season loss against WCU last season by downing the Catamounts, 1-0, in the SoCon quarterfinals. The first 125 Paladin fans in the gates on Sunday will receive a free Furman Soccer scarf.
