Women's Soccer Blanks ETSU To Claim Fourth Straight SoCon Victory, 2-0

Paladins Host Western Carolina Sunday At 2 p.m.

Greenville, S.C. – Senior Kellsey Weaver notched six saves and Furman netted two second half goals to blank ETSU, 2-0, in Southern Conference women's soccer action Friday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

With its fourth consecutive victory and fourth straight shutout, Furman improved to 9-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in SoCon play. ETSU dropped to 4-7-3 overall and 0-3-1 in the league.

"It was a blue-collar performance for us tonight and we were able to pick up another shutout against a tough league opponent," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr, who earned his SoCon-record 196th victory. "We'll get our rest and prepare for Sunday."

After a scoreless first half that featured just three shots on goal, Furman found the breakthrough in the 75th minute. Arianna Milicia, the reigning SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, served a cross into the middle of the box from just inside the midfield stripe on the right wing. Erin Houlihan was able to nod her shot into the right-side netting for the go-ahead score before being helped off after a head-to-head collision with a Buccaneer defender.

In the final two minutes, Amanda Baker created trouble for the ETSU defense on the left side of the box on a counter attack and won a penalty kick. Senior Erin O'Hearn stepped up to convert from the spot to double the lead at 88:20 for the finale 2-0 score.

Weaver recorded the Paladins fourth straight shutout and seventh in 14 matches this season by stopping two shots in the first half and four over the final 45 minutes. Tess Mrozek tallied four saves in the loss for ETSU.

Furman finished with a 15-9 edge in total shots. Each team posted six shots on goal.

The Paladins are back in action at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stone Stadium versus Western Carolina (8-5-0, 2-2-0 SoCon), who scored a 1-0 win at Wofford on Friday night. Sunday's match marks the 27th all-time meeting versus the Catamounts. Furman holds an 18-7-1 series lead and avenged a 3-1 regular season loss against WCU last season by downing the Catamounts, 1-0, in the SoCon quarterfinals. The first 125 Paladin fans in the gates on Sunday will receive a free Furman Soccer scarf.

Furman women's soccer tickets are available at FurmanPaladins.com or at the Stone Stadium entrance beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Sunday's match will be streamed live on the SoCon Digital Network with live statistics provided thru StatBroadcast. Links for both will be posted at FurmanPaladins.com.
