GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman offensive tackle
Bo Layton has been named to the 2019 Academic All-District® Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced today.
Layton, a senior biology major from Knoxville, Tenn., who sports a 3.69 grade point average, was named to the NCAA Division I District 4 squad that represents schools from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico.
He will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot, with first and second team Academic All-America® honorees announced in early December.
A three-year starter and consensus 2018 All-Southern Conference first team selection, he was elected by his teammates as a captain this year and has registered starts in all 10 games, helping the Paladins to a 7-3 overall record, 6-1 SoCon mark, and current FCS No. 7 national ranking. Furman leads the SoCon in scoring offense (35.8 ppg) and total offense (440.7 ypg), and ranks fifth nationally in rushing offense (282.5 ypg).
The 6-foot-7, 287-pound Layton owns 28 career starts and has registered 1,504 play participations in his career.
Inducted into Furman's Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Epsilon Deta (Pre-Med) Honor Societies, he is a three-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll selection. He also serves as president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and has been active in Furman's Heller Service Corps.
Furman football has produced 15 Academic All-Americans over the years — the most of any SoCon school.
