Greenville, S.C. –
Noah Gurley connected on all 10 of his field goal attempts to score a career-high 25 points as Furman claimed its fourth straight victory with an 83-61 triumph over Southern Wesleyan in the mainland portion of the 2019 Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis Friday evening at Timmons Arena.

Gurley, who finished 10-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 at the foul line, became only the second player in school history to go perfect on 10 or more field goal attempts. Russ Hunt was the first to accomplish the feat in a 101-91 win over Appalachian State on December 9, 1971. Gurley added five rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and two steals while pacing four Paladins in double figures. Jordan Lyons totaled 11 points and Jalen Slawson and Clay Mounce scored 10 apiece.

After a 14-0 Southern Wesleyan run knotted the game at 28-28, Furman ended the first half on 14-3 spurt to carry a 42-31 lead in halftime. Gurley scored 12 of the 14 Paladin points during the decisive run as Furman held the Warriors to just one basket over the final 7:30 of the opening half.

Southern Wesleyan trimmed the Paladin lead to 44-36 early in the second half, but Gurley netted four straight points and Slawson followed an Alex Hunter three-pointer with a two-handed slam off a missed shot to cap a 9-0 run and extend the Furman lead to 53-36 with 11:30 remaining. The Warriors got no closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Furman shot 54.2% from the field, drained 11-of-27 three-point tries and made good on 8-of-10 trips to the foul line. The Paladins, who have now won 20 of their last 22 regular season non-conference games, forced Southern Wesleyan into 19 turnovers that led to 25 points and Furman managed a 40-28 scoring edge in the paint.

SWU connected on just 13-of-33 second half shots to shoot 44.8% from the field. Solomon Smith and Ta'Jay Dunlap led the Warriors with 12 points apiece.

Furman will continue play in the Battle 4 Atlantis next Tuesday, November 19, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed live on SEC Network+. After hosting Columbia International on November 19, the Paladins will conclude play in the Battle 4 Atlantis with contests versus Elon and UT Arlington in Elon, N.C., November 26-27.
