GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman junior Gabbi Jennings will compete in the 3,000m Steeplechase as a member of Team USA's U23 world team at the 2019 North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Championships, which will be held July 5-7 in Queretaro, Mexico.
The year marks the 10th anniversary of the NACAC U23 Championships and will be the first for the U18 age category. The 2019 NACAC U18/U23 Championships will feature athletes from 31 different countries across the NACAC region.
The 3,000m Steeplechase event will be held on Saturday, July 6, at 6:55 p.m. local time (7:55 p.m. EDT).
An All-American in the event, Jennings qualified for the meet after placing ninth with a time of 9:58.83 at the NCAA Championships earlier in June. A native of Slidell, La., Jennings set a program record with a time of 9:47.84 to take second place in the semifinals of the event at the national championships. Jennings, who claimed first place in the event at the 2019 Cardinal Classic and the 2019 Raleigh Relays, won her heat and placed third overall at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries.
"Since I have become involved in the sport, earning a national team vest has always been the pinnacle of our sport," said Furman head coach Robert Gary. "We are very excited to have Gabbi added to the list of Furman people represented on Junior/Senior national teams. She has improved dramatically each year and look forward to further recognitions."
