GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman junior
Gabbi Jennings will run the 3,000m Steeplechase as a member of Team USA's U23 world team at the 2019 North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Championships Saturday in Queretaro, Mexico.
The Steeplechase event is set to begin at 6:55 local time (7:55 p.m. EDT).
The year marks the 10th anniversary of the NACAC U23 Championships and will be the first for the U18 age category. The 2019 NACAC U18/U23 Championships, which will be held July 5-7, will feature athletes from 31 different countries across the NACAC region.
An All-American in the event, Jennings qualified for the NACAC Championships after placing ninth with a time of 9:58.83 at the NCAA Championships in June. A native of Slidell, La., Jennings set a program record with a time of 9:47.84 to take second place in the semifinals of the event at the national championships. Jennings, who claimed first place in the event at the 2019 Cardinal Classic and the 2019 Raleigh Relays, won her heat and placed third overall at the 2019 NCAA East Preliminaries.
"The entire staff is excited for Gabbi to represent Team USA this weekend," said Furman head coach
Robert Gary. "There are very few sights that we are more excited about than an athlete associated with our program in their national team uniform. Gabbi has had a breakout year from cross country, indoors, and now through outdoors."
