Charlottesville, Va. – Mariia Levanova put down 14 kills and Coastal Carolina rallied in the third set to sweep Furman, 3-0, on Saturday in the Paladins' final game of the 2019 Cavalier Classic.
Furman (0-3) was led by
Courtney Hoffman with 10 kills on the day, while
Nicole Mack put down nine and added a team-high 12 digs. Hoffman also led the team with three blocks, while
Andrea Aceveda added 11 digs and three aces.
The teams traded points in the first set until Furman used a 3-0 run to tie the set at 20. Coastal used a 3-0 run of its own to regain the lead at 23-20, before Furman cut the lead to 23-22 on a kill by
Courtney Hoffman. The teams then traded points until the Chanticleers took the set, 25-23, for a 1-0 match lead.
The Paladins jumped out to an early 12-7 lead, then kept it at five at 16-11. The Chanticleers came storming back, however, 9-2 run to take a 20-18 lead. The teams then traded points until Coastal got its first set point opportunity at 24-20. The Paladins clawed back to cut the lead to one at 24-23, but the Chanticleers ended it with a 25-23 victory, taking a 2-0 lead.
Furman again jumped out to an early lead in set three, taking an 8-0 advantage. Later in the set, with Furman leading 15-11, Coastal Carolina rattled off a 9-1 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Chanticleers pushed the lead to five at 23-18 and the Paladins couldn't recover, as Coastal Carolina took the set 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
Furman is back in action next weekend, traveling to High Point invitational for another three-match weekend.
