Women's Soccer Cruises Past Presbyterian, 5-0

Paladins Face N.C. State On Acc Network At 1 p.m. Sunday

Greenville, S.C. – Furman netted four first half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over Presbyterian in non-conference women's soccer action Thursday night before a crowd of 1,034 on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.

With the victory, the Paladins improved to 5-2-0 on the season and claimed their third shutout in the last four matches. Presbyterian dropped to 0-5.

"I was proud of the way we took care of business early tonight, which allowed us to play a lot of people and get plenty of rest for our starters," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "We'll concentrate on our recovery and preparation as we get ready for a tough challenge against a very good ACC team in N.C. State."

Furman scored goals in pairs in the first half with freshman Jasmine Greene opening her account after being played behind the PC defense on a pass from redshirt-freshman Kyndal Anderson in the seventh minute. Anderson netted her first of two goals on the night just 37 seconds later at the 7:22 mark. Greene curled a cross to the top of the six-yard box for the Acworth, Ga., product to head past the PC keeper.

The Paladins extended the margin to 3-0 at 30:23 on Greene's second goal of the night. Caitlyn Reilly lined a shot across the frame of goal that was deflected towards the right post where Greene poked in the rebound to give her two goals to go with one assist on the night. Only 48 seconds later, Erin O'Hearn's pass through the center of the field sprung Josie Gillespie free and she rounded the keeper before slotting home her shot at 31:11.

Anderson capped the scoring with her second goal of the evening in the 53rd minute, finishing her chance on a cross from Reilly.

Kellsey Weaver, Nora Sampson and Sarah Rinker combined to record the shutout for Furman with Sampson notching the Paladins' only save. Megan Serrano stopped eight shots for the Blue Hose.

The Paladins managed a 28-4 edge in total shots and 14-1 advantage in shots on goal in the victory.

Furman plays its first of four straight road contests on Sunday when it faces the ACC's N.C. State Wolfpack at Dail Soccer Complex in Raleigh, N.C. The match, set for 1 p.m., will be televised live on the ACC Network.
