Greenville, S.C. – The Furman volleyball will travel to Rock Hill, S.C., for two matches this week. The Paladins will take on Winthrop Thursday at 6 p.m. then face Appalachian State Friday at noon in a neutral match. Both matches will be held at the Winthrop Coliseum.
The Paladins (0-8) are seeking their first win of the season after dropping matches to Elon and Wake Forest last weekend at the Demon Deacon/Phoenix Challenge. Junior Nicole Mack has a team-high 90 kills for the season, while freshman Andrea Aceveda leads the Paladins with 129 digs.
Furman holds a 21-18 series advantage over the Eagles. Winthrop defeated the Paladins, 3-1, last season in Greenville. The Eagles (6-3) scored 3-0 victories over Southern Miss and Georgia Southern last weekend at the Georgia Southern Invitational then beat Elon, 3-0, Tuesday, on the road. Nikkia Benitez leads Winthrop with 104 kills this season.
Appalachian State leads the all-time series with the Paladins, 32-25, after defeating Furman, 3-1, in Greenville in 2018. The Mountaineers (3-7) defeated Western Carolina before falling to Iowa State and N.C. State last weekend at the Appalachian Invitational. Emma Longley has a team-high 149 kills this season to pace the Mountaineers.
