Furman Blanks Kennesaw State In Friday Women's Soccer Action, 2-0

Paladins Host Oregon On Sunday At 5 p.m.

Kennesaw, Ga. – Senior Amanda Baker gave Furman a lead just seconds before the half and Erin O'Hearn added a late goal as the Paladins blanked Kennesaw State, 2-0, in non-conference women's soccer Friday night at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.

With less than 20 seconds to play in the first half, Furman won a free kick in the midfield and Isabella Gutierrez found Amanda Baker behind the back line. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native dribbled around the goalkeeper and tapped her shot into an empty net with nine seconds on the clock to give the Paladins a 1-0 lead at half.

O'Hearn added an insurance goal for the Paladins at the 83:39 mark for her first tally of the season. The Paladins drew a foul approximately 30 yards out and O'Hearn hammered her free kick past the KSU keeper and under the cross bar to double to Furman lead.

Senior Kellsey Weaver recorded three saves in goal to record Furman's second straight shutout of the season and earn her fourth victory in goal. Tiffany Sornpao stopped four shots for the Owls (3-1-0).

Furman managed an 11-10 edge in total shots and 6-3 margin in shots on goal.

The Paladins (4-1-0) return home on Sunday to host the Oregon Ducks in a 5 p.m. kickoff on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium. Tickets for Sunday's match are on sale at FurmanPaladins.com and can also be purchased for $5 at the Stone Stadium entrance beginning one hour prior to kickoff.
