GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman dominated Marshall, 5-2, Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins recorded wins at flights two and three doubles to win the first point. Sophomore Madison Dillon and senior Danni Vines held off Anna Smith and Madison Riley, 6-4, at number two, and juniors MaryAnn Rompf and Georgie Walker defeated Madi Ballow and Kara Joseph, 6-1, at number three. The flight one contest was unfinished, with 21st-ranked senior Katarina Kozarov and sophomore Julia Adams leading Liz Stefancic and Jutte Van Hansewyck, 4-3.
In singles action, Furman won four matches in straight sets. Thirteenth-ranked Kozarov downed Smith, 6-3, 6-3, in the top-seeded match up, and Adams beat Van Hansewyck, 6-2, 6-3, at flight two. Walker recorded a 6-4, 6-2 advantage over Ballow at number four, then rookie Maggie Pate blew past Joseph, 6-1, 6-2, at number six.
Marshall (5-2) scored at flights three and five. Ballow came from behind for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rompf at number three, and Riley held off Dillon in a tiebreaker, 6-4 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Furman (7-3) will entertain Emmanuel Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center. The Paladins travel to Lynchburg, Va., to take on Liberty and VCU February 22-23.
