MORAGA, CALIF. -- With the score tied at 3-apiece, Aubane Ville defeated Maggie Pate, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7) at flight six to lead Saint Mary's past No. 43 Furman, 4-3.  The loss, which snapped Furman's 11-match wining streak, marked the Paladins' first defeat at the hands of a non-Power 5 opponent in over two years, dating back to March 9, 2018, when Furman fell at Long Beach State, 6-1.

The Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to claim the first point.  Senior Danni Vines and sophomore Madison Dillon topped Chloe Goyette and Jordan Harris, 6-2, at flight two, and juniors MaryAnn Rompf and Georgie Walker downed Lene Mari Hovda and Liesl Pieters, 6-2, at number three.  The flight one match was unfinished with sophomore Julia Adams and senior Katarina Kozarov, who rank 36th nationally, tied 5-all with Mariia Kozyreva and Danielle McIntyre.

The Gaels (7-4) picked up two quick singles points, as Hovda scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rompf at flight three, and Gabriela Tevez defeated Walker, 6-3, 6-2, at flight five.  Furman answered with two singles victories of its own to take a 3-2 lead when Dillon came from behind to post an 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 advantage versus McIntyre at flight four, and Adams held off Harris, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, at number two.  Kozyreva, who ranks 21st nationally, outlasted Kozarov, the 16th-ranked singles player, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, at flight one to tie the match and set up the decisive flight six contest. 

Furman (13-4, 1-0 SoCon) will conclude the team's spring break trip at San Jose State Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
