Furman Falls To Chattanooga, 68-56

Hodges Matches Career High With 23 Points

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Bria Dial scored 19 points and Chattanooga used a decisive 16-0 second quarter run to take command en route to a 68-56 victory over Furman in Southern Conference women's basketball action Friday evening at Timmons Arena.

The victory improves Chattanooga to 7-4 on the season and 2-0 in SoCon play while Furman falls to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in league action.

The two teams play again Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Holding an 18-17 advantage two and a half minutes into the second quarter, Eboni Williams opened the 16-0 run with a layup and Dial finished off the flurry with a 3-pointer — part of a string of three straight treys by the Mocs — to give UTC a 34-17 lead with 2:22 to go in the first half.

Chattanooga was never seriously threatened in the second half and finished the game shooting 48.3 percent from the field, converting 28-of-58 shots, including 7-of-18 from 3-point range.

Williams finished with 11 points along with Abbey Cornelius

Redshirt senior small forward Tierra Hodges tallied a game high 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Paladins, who suffered a big blow just three minutes into the game when starting point guard Paraskevi Koilia sustained a serious leg injury, which required air splints before the Athens, Greece, freshman was removed from the court on a stretcher.

Koilia's apparent season ending injury was the second of the season suffered by Furman's back court after starting senior second guard Jarya Outten sustained a torn ACL in early December.

Freshman Sydney James followed Hodges in the scoring column with 18 points.

The Paladins shot 42 percent from the field (21-of-50) and outrebounded the Mocs 37-26.
