Furman Falls To Charlotte, 5-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- With a shorthanded lineup due to positive Covid-19 testing and contract tracing, Furman fell to Charlotte, 5-0, Friday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The 49ers won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point.  Ben Wayand and Henry Lieberman defeated freshmen Emil Westling and Ben Cahill, 6-4, at flight one, and Olle Wallin and Ignasi de Rueda teamed up to beat sophomores Jason Smith and Chad Nash, 6-0, at flight two.  In the unfinished flight three match, sophomore Charlie Meyerson and freshman Cole Rigsby led, 6-5, over Stefanso Savva and Peter Glenn.

Charlotte swept the top four singles matches for the win.  Lieberman held off Westling, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, in the top-seeded contest, and Wayand topped Smith, 6-1, 6-2, at flight two.  At flight three, Wallin posted a 6-0, 6-3 advantage over Nash, and de Rueda defeated Cahill, 6-2, 6-3, at flight four.  The matches at flights five and six were unfinished.
