Furman Suffers Setback at Samford

Paladins Host VMI, UNCG in Final Home Games Next Weekend

Birmingham, Ala. – The Furman women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision in Southern Conference action to the Samford Bulldogs, Sunday afternoon at Shauna Yelton Field.

Furman drops to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-3 in SoCon play, while Samford improves to 9-3-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

The Bulldogs netted two goals in the first half from Grace Sommi and Alyssa Frazier. Sommi got Samford on the scoreboard first in the 11th minute off the assist from Jennifer Seward. Frazier followed in the 22nd minute scoring on a penalty kick.

Kylie Gazza and Ella Simpson added two more goals for the Bulldogs in the second half. Gazza recorded an unassisted goal in the 65th minute, and Frazier contributed an assist to Simpson's goal in the 76th minute.

Jasmine Greene had a team-best two shots for the Paladins and was one of five players to have an attempt on goal. Furman goalkeeper Addison Corn totaled four saves.

Frazier led Samford with a goal and assist and registered a game-high three shots including two on goal. Goalkeeper Morgan McAslan finished with five saves.

The Bulldogs held a 16-8 advantage in shots and 8-5 in attempts on goal. Samford also led 10-6 in corner kicks.

The Paladins play their final two home games of the season next weekend, October 15-17, hosting VMI and UNC Greensboro at Stone Stadium.
