Greenville, S.C. – Josh Hosie and
Jake Raine netted goals for Furman on Tuesday evening as the Paladins recorded a 2-2 draw in non-conference play against the Bob Jones Bruins at Stone Stadium.
Furman's record moves to 2-7-1 on the season while Bob Jones is 10-2-2 overall.
Raine sent the game into overtime after his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 83
rd minute tied the score at 2-2. The Paladins had two chances to equalize prior to Raine's game-tying goal off a free kick outside the 18-yard box near the touchline by
Jacob Garzon.
Tommy Redhead's initial header was saved by Bruin goalkeeper Chris Monczewski and
Dylan Lane's follow-up header hit off the crossbar. Raine ran past a Bob Jones defender to score in front of the net to send the contest to extra time.
The Bruins had scored two unanswered goals in the 18
th and 75
th minutes to take a 2-1 lead over Furman. Victor Oladipo recorded Bob Jones' goal in the 18
th minute off an assist from Peter Waddy to tie the game at 1-1. Mario Figueroa gave the Bruins a 2-1 advantage with his unassisted goal in the 75
th minute.
Hosie started the scoring for the Paladins in the 12
th minute after registering his first goal of the season with Lane getting the assist. Lane received a pass in the middle of the field from Garzon after a failed clear attempt by Bob Jones. Hosie received a through ball from Lane inside the 18-yard box near side and scored with his attempt hitting the bottom of the crossbar to go in past Monczewski.
Lane set a new career-high with two assists while Raine led Furman with seven shots including five on goal.
Ben Roberts grabbed a total of three saves in goal.
Figueroa had a team-high five shots for the Bruins and Oladipo added two attempts on goal. Monczewski finished with 11 saves.
The Paladins attempted a season-best 34 shots in the contest and Bob Jones registered 15. Furman led 14-5 in attempts on goal and 11-2 in corner kicks.
The Paladins return to Southern Conference play on Saturday evening when they travel to Spartanburg for a 7 p.m. matchup against Wofford.
