MADISON, WIS. -- The 10th-ranked Furman men's team finished ninth at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Friday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis., while the 28th-ranked Paladin women placed 23rd in a loaded field that included 16 of the nation's top 30 teams.
The Paladin men faced 17 teams in the top 30 team and scored 302 points to place among the top 10 on the 8K course. Sixth-ranked Iowa State won the meet with 88 points, followed by third-ranked Stanford in second with 104 points. No. 12 Tulsa was third with 160 points.
On the women's side, No. 3 New Mexico won the meet with 92 points, and top-ranked N.C. State was second with 102 points. No. 2 BYU placed third with 152 points. The Paladins scored 592 points on the 6K course.Â
Senior Cameron Ponder paced the Paladins, finishing 37th with a time of 23:55.1, while senior Aaron Wier turned in a 47th-place finish at 24:02.1 Senior Daniel Bernal placed 64th with a time of 24:10.7, and sophomore Dylan Schubert was 70th at 24:13.4. Sophomore Carson Williams completed the Paladin scorers in 85th place at 24:24.3, and freshman Gabe Montague crossed the line in 24:34.3 for 108th place. Junior Ares Reading posted a time of 26:22.8 for 225th place. Sophomore Bethany Graham led the women for the fourth meet in a row, placing 11th with a time of 20:20.1 Freshman Kaylie Armitage posted a time of 21:23.6 for 113th place, and sophomore Madelynne Cadeau was 148th at 21:38.2. Rookie Meghan Ford finished 160th with a time of 21:44.2, and sophomore Megan Marvin turned in a time of 21:49.0 for 171st place. Junior Nicole Matysik was 193rd at 21:59.5.
Select members of the Furman team will compete at the USC Upstate Invite Saturday at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, S.C.Â
