SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Furman cross country teams won the USC Upstate Invitational Saturday at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
On the women's side, Furman, which ranks 28th-nationally, won the meet with 35 points. College of Charleston placed second with 85 points, and UNC Asheville finished third with 97 points.
The 10th-ranked Paladin men scored 41 points in the 17-team field for the victory. Mercer was second with 56 points, followed by UNC Asheville with 97 points.
Sophomore Emily Little won the individual title on the women's 5K course, posting a time of 17:38.7. Junior Abigail Robertson was second with a time of 17:44.0, and freshman Sierra Bower turned in a time of 18:33.5 for eighth place. Sophomore Beth Connelly rounded out the top 10, crossing the line in 18:36.9, and sophomore Kylie Wittman finished 14th with a time of 19:004.
For the men, the Paladins placed four runners in the top 10 on the 8K course, including freshman Nick Goldstein, who finished fifth at 25:55.2, followed by freshman Foster Wilfong in sixth with a time of 25:59.0. Junior Adam Beucler placed seventh with a time of 26:06.0, followed by junior Mac Roberts in eighth place with a time of 26:11.6. Junior Benjamin Seeber completed the Paladin scorers in 15th place at 26:35.3.
Junior Josh Powers turned in a time of 26:44.6 for 17th place, and junior Nick Epstein was 23rd at 27:00.0. Freshman Casey Burr placed 36th with a time of 27:25.8, and sophomore Spencer Tate posted a time of 28:12.9 for 57th place. Junior Justin Hager was 84th with a time of 28:58.0.
The Paladins, eight-time defending SoCon Champions, will compete at the league championships October 30 in Lexington, Va.
