CARY, N.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team recorded key singles and doubles victories this weekend at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.  The tournament showcased the top men's tennis players from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina.

In the singles main draw round of 128, freshman Jamie Connel defeated Wofford's Robbie Young, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, while senior James Roelofse came from behind for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Esteban Lopez of N.C. A&T.  In the same round, sophomore Emil Westling beat Presbyterian's Nicholas McKenney, 7-6(3), 6-4. 

Graduate student Ivan Mitric reached the round of 8 in the singles consolation draw.  He topped Campbell's Noe MacQuart, 6-2, 6-0, then defeated Luka Stefanovic of S.C. State, 6-2, 6-1. 

In the doubles main draw round of 64, Mitric teamed with Connel to down Alex Horn and Max Graham of Wofford, 6-4, 6-3, and Roelofse and Westling took down UNCW's Reece Flack and Trey Mallory, 6-4, 6-3.  In doubles consolation, the Paladin teams were pitted against each other, with Connor Laymon and Cole Burnam defeating Elijah Portizky and Drew Singerman, 6-1, 6-4. 

The Paladins will conclude the fall season at the Furman Duals next weekend, Oct. 30-31, at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
