Furman Faces Western Carolina Sunday in SoCon Semifinals

Game Time Set for 2 p.m.

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's soccer team will look to earn its 17th trip to the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship game on Sunday afternoon when it hosts the No. 3 seed Western Carolina Catamounts in semifinal round action at 2 p.m. from Stone Stadium.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. The game is being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+. Updates will also be posted on the Furman women's soccer Twitter page (@FurmanWSoccer).

Tickets for Sunday's game are $5 and can be purchased online at www.furmanpaladins.com or at the Stone Stadium entrance one hour prior to kickoff.

The No. 2 seed Paladins (11-5-1) defeated No. 7 seed The Citadel, 2-1, in overtime Friday evening at Stone Stadium to earn a spot in the semifinal round. Southern Conference Player of the Year Nieva Gaither netted the golden goal to lead Furman to the overtime win while second team All-SoCon Kyndal Anderson also added a goal. First team All-SoCon Isabella Gutierrez contributed one assist and Addison Corn registered four saves in goal.

The Paladins held a 22-11 advantage in shots and 13-5 in attempts on goal. Furman also led 10-1 in corner kicks.

Anderson leads Furman offensively this season with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists while Gaither contributes 23 points on nine goals and five assists. Gutierrez has dished out a team-leading seven assists. In goal, Corn has compiled 52 saves to go with a 1.23 GAA and .776 save percentage.

Western Carolina (11-7-1) advanced to the semifinals after defeating No. 6 UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in overtime Friday at Stone Stadium. Valentine Pursey scored the golden goal for the Catamounts and Kirsten Hahn picked up an assist. Ashlee Owens finished with four saves in goal.

Pursey leads the Catamounts on offense with 20 points on nine goals and two assists, while Hahn and Naya Marcil have both contributed 10 points on three goals and four assists. In goal, Owens provides 41 saves, and Melody Mezzina a 0.60 GAA and .842 save percentage. Western Carolina is under the direction of 12th-year head coach Chad Miller.

The Paladins and Catamounts are meeting for the 30th time in program history with Furman holding a 20-8-1 lead in the all-time series. Western Carolina defeated the Paladins during the regular season, 3-1, in Greenville on October 1.
