SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team won three singles draws this weekend at the Wofford Fall Invitational, which was held at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.

Freshman Sara Snyder won the Gold Draw, defeating Eliza McPherron of Emory, 6-2, 7-5, then taking down Katherine Muzik of Kennesaw State, 7-6(3), 6-1.  In the final, she defeated UNC Asheville's Lize Alet Morkel, 6-3, 6-1.

Rookie Ellie Schulson was the winner of the Black Draw.  She scored a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Radford's Melissa Ifidzhen then beat Wofford's Elizabeth Massie, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.  In the draw final, Schulson topped Claudia Sanchez Quesada of Presbyterian, 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Ilayda Baykan won the Conquer Draw. She defeated Gardner-Webb's Elin Hellberg, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals then recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win versus Malin Falk of Radford.  She won the final when Rosie Dickson of UNC Asheville retired due to injury.

Sophomore Ellie Schoppe tallied two wins in the Terrier Draw.  She beat Emory's Christina Watson, 6-4, 6-3, and downed Lilie Steryous of Wofford, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles, Schoppe teamed with Snyder to defeat Gardner Webb's Delsol and Ristic by walkover then downed Presbyterian's Sanchez Quesada and Piedra, 6-4, in the consolation final.  Baykan and Schulson topped Gardner-Webb's Jardim and Hellberg, 6-4.

"This was a great chance for some of our younger girls to compete and show what they can do," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen.  "I am really proud of how they represented our team in every single match."

Furman will conclude the 2021 fall season at the SoCon Fall Championship, Nov. 5-7, in Belton, S.C.
