GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman quarterback
Hamp Sisson has been named 2021 Academic All-District, as selected by CoSIDA, it was announced today.
Sisson was voted first team NCAA Division I Academic All-District IV, which covers South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.
A junior health sciences major from Birmingham, Ala., who sports a 4.00 cumulative GPA, Sisson has seen action in seven games and made five starts this fall, passing for 887 yards and five touchdowns. Â Elected captain by his teammates for both the 2020 and 21 seasons, he threw for 362 yards and three touchdowns in the Paladins' season opening, 29-18 victory over then 24th-ranked North Carolina A&T, for which he was named both Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Student-Athlete of the Week. Â Sisson has passed for 2,824 yards and 20 touchdowns in his Paladin career and has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and received the league's Commissioner's Medal in each of his first three years at Furman.
The 2021 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.  The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
First team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, with first and second team Academic All-America honorees being announced in mid-December.
Furman plays its final game of the 2021 season this Saturday at Samford, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. ET.
