Furman Set To Continue Homestand Saturday Versus UNC Asheville

Fans Invited To Contribute Canned Goods To Harvest Hope Food Bank

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman continues its early season homestand on Saturday when it plays host to UNC Asheville in a 2:00 p.m., ESPN+ live streamed contest at Timmons Arena.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online HERE and at the Timmons Arena Box Office, located in the lobby, beginning one hour before tipoff.

The Paladins, who opened the week at Georgia and raced past Converse, 101-58, on Wednesday, will wrap up the compressed slate on Monday when it welcomes Erskine to Timmons Arena.

Both Saturday and Monday games will include a canned food drive for Harvest Hope Food Bank.  Fans wishing to participate can deposit items in the collection bins located in the Timmons Arena lobby.

Furman and UNC Asheville have met on the hardwood 31 times over the years, with the Paladins holding a 17-14 advantage, including a 10-3 mark in Greenville.  Furman has won the last four clashes with the Bulldogs, most recently during the 2018-19 season (58-47 win in Timmons Arena.) Tierra Hodges scored 11 points and claimed 11 rebounds in that contest.  

UNC Asheville bring a 2-1 record to Greenville, having claimed wins over Western Carolina (74-72 OT) and Mars Hill (71-38) after opening the season with a 52-48 road loss at UNC Greensboro.

Kennedy Grier scored 17 points to lead a balanced scoring effort in the Paladins' win over Converse.  Grier recorded her tally in just 13 minutes of action, headlining a Paladin offensive effort that produced five double figure scorers.  All 16 Furman players in uniform saw action. Sydney James followed Grier with 13 points, and Janay Outten, Tierra Hodges, and Katie Whitaker each contributed 11 points for Furman.  Furman shot 43.9 percent from the field (36x82) and dominated the boards, registering a 60-28 advantage, including a 32-10 edge on the offensive glass that contributed to a 26-5 advantage in second chance points and 52-22 spread on points in the paint.

Tierra Hodges' 11-point, 10-rebound performance versus Converse moved her up in two Furman career statistical categories.. The 11 points upper her career total to 1,159 points, pushing her past Kim Lawrence (1,154 points, 2001-04) into 19th place.  The 10 caroms increased Hodges' career tally to 938, moving her ahead of Brittany Hodges (921 rebounds, 2011-14).  The double-double was also her 17th in the last 28 games.
