Tate Walters and
Sydney James scored 15 points apiece, and
Tierra Hodges followed with 14 points to propel Furman to an 86-46 victory over Brevard in women's exhibition basketball action Monday evening at Timmons Arena.
Walters and James, a pair of sophomores, combined to connect on 9-of-21 field goal attempts, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range to pace the Paladins. Â Hodges, a senior forward and consensus All-SoCon selection a year ago, backed up her 14-point effort with a game high 11 rebounds, leading a dominant performance on the glass by Furman, which outrebounded Brevard 55-25.
James and Walters drained 3-pointers to start the contest as Furman raced to a 26-5 lead after one quarter and was never threatened.
Destiny Williams and Aysha Short led Brevard with 11 points apiece.
Freshman
Kate Johnson chipped in nine points, and
Greyson Boone scored eight points to round out Furman's top five scoring ledger.
The Paladins connected on 8-of-18 shots from beyond the arc and finished the game shooting 41.2 percent (28x68) from the field.
Furman tips off its 2021-22 season on Friday when it plays host to Presbyterian in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
