ATLANTA, GA. -- Digna Strautmane scored a game high 20 points to lead Georgia Tech to a 63-36 win over Furman in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion.
Strautmane, a 6-foot-2 fifth-year senior forward from Riga, Latvia, connected on 7-of-15 shots, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range to account for her 20 points, which she combined with six rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
Avyonce Carter chipped in 14 points for the Yellow Jackets (8-2), who overwhelmed Furman with solid defense that limited the Paladins (5-6) to just 24.5 percent shooting (13x53).Â
Tate Walters paced Furman with 15 points, the only Paladin to reach double figures.
A Walters 3-pointer two minutes into the second quarter gave Furman a 16-14 lead, but it didn't last long as Georgia Tech fashioned a 10-0 run to go up 24-16 following a Sarah Bates trey with 2:39 remaining in the half.
Georgia Tech outscored Furman 23-5 in the third period to take total command.
The Paladins, who have dropped four straight, return to action on Thursday at Charleston Southern in a 5:30 p.m. game.
