DELAND, FLA. -- Stetson edged past Furman, 5-2, Friday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla.

The Paladins won two of three doubles matches to take the first point.  Stetson's Antoine Sanchez and Diogo Marques defeated seniors Jake Bhangdia and Henrik Atlevi, 6-3, at flight one, then Furman senior Ivan Mitric and junior James Roelofse evened the slate with a 6-1 victory over Sven Thiergard and Fabian Penzkofer at number two.  In the decisive flight three contest, freshman Emil Westling and senior Drew Singerman held off Linus Bergeiviand Josh Laka, 7-5, to give Furman the point.

The Hatters (2-3) scored the first three singles points to take a 3-1 advantage.  Sanchez beat Mitric, 6-3, 6-1, at number one, and Bergevi topped Atlevi, 6-1, 6-2, at number three.  At flight six, Lake posted a 6-1, 6-3 advantage over Roelofse.  Westling brought the Paladins within one at 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tim Gennes at flight five, then Penzkofer downed Singerman, 6-4, 6-3, at number four to clinch the match for Stetson.  In the final match of the day, Marques outlasted Bhangdia, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.  

Furman (4-6, 1-0 SoCon) continues its road trip at North Florida Saturday at 11 a.m.
