Shaun-Chris Joash scored the match-winning goal in the 97
th minute as Furman men's soccer rallied from behind twice to down UNCG, 3-2, in overtime Saturday night at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.
The victory, Furman's third straight over UNCG, improved the Paladins to 4-1-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference, while the Spartans slipped to 4-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
With less than four minutes left in the first overtime period,
Cole McLagan advanced the ball near the top of the box and played a pass wide to
Josh Hosie. The freshman sent a driving cross towards the top of the six-year box where Joash redirected the ball into the left-hand corner at the 96:49 mark.

Ben Hale made five saves in goal, including a pair of sprawling efforts in the late going, to earn the victory for the Paladins, who were outshot 18-13. Both teams totaled seven shots on goal.
After UNCG took a 1-0 lead through Angel Bacho in the second minute, Furman answered on a set piece in the 40
thminute. The Paladins drew a foul outside the box and just wide of the left post.
Cole McLagan stepped up and curled his free kick into the upper left-hand corner to even the match.
The Spartans regained the lead in the 68
th minute when a miscommunication at the back resulted in a UNCG penalty kick, and Mani Austmann converted the spot kick at 67:44 to give the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.
Furman pushed forward in the final 10 minutes and found an equalizer at the 83:30 mark. McLagan collected the ball on the right side of the box and drilled a ball towards the middle of the box that took a 90 degree deflection off of a UNCG defender and into the right side of the net for an own goal.
Hale made a game-saving stop on an 88
th minute shot to help force overtime and setup Joash's heroics.
