Furman Enters Top Drawer Soccer's National Rankings; Paladins Set To Battle For SoCon Title At Belmont

Tuesday's Kickoff Set For 6 P.M. On ESPN+

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's soccer team moved into the national rankings at No. 24 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 as the Paladins prepare to play for a Southern Conference regular season title tomorrow night in Nashville, Tenn., versus Belmont.

The 24th-ranked Paladins, 6-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in league play, can secure a share of the SoCon regular season title with a draw and can clinch the outright crown and No. 1 seed in the upcoming SoCon Men's Soccer Championship with a victory versus the Bruins on Tuesday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. EDT at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Furman jumped into the national rankings for the first time this season by scoring its fourth straight victory with a 6-0 shutout of VMI on Friday night at Stone Soccer Stadium. Giovanni Lagnerini netted two goals for the Paladins, while Jake Raine and Shaun-Chris Joash each tallied their fifth goal of the campaign.

Tuesday's match marks the 10th all-time meeting between Furman and Belmont with the Paladins holding an 8-1-0 series lead. Head coach Doug Allison's squad since Belmont joined the SoCon in men's soccer, including a 2-1 decision in Greenville, S.C., in the last meeting on November 2, 2019.

Belmont enters the match at 5-1-2 overall and 2-1-1 in league play following a 3-2 overtime loss at UNC Greensboro this past weekend. The Bruins can keep their regular season title hopes alive with a win over the Paladins.

This year's SoCon Men's Soccer Championship will include just the top four teams in the final regular season standings with the top two teams hosting semifinal round matches on the weekend of April 9-10, and the top remaining seed hosting the league championship match the following weekend.

The Paladins close the regular season at home on Thursday, April 1, versus Wofford.
