No. 24 Furman Plays To Scoreless Draw Versus Wofford In Regular Season Finale

Paladins To Host SoCon Semifinal On April 9

Greenville, S.C. – The 24th-ranked Furman Paladins capped their unbeaten run through the Southern Conference regular season schedule with a 0-0 draw versus Wofford in the regular season finale Thursday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

"I'm very proud of this team for finishing the SoCon schedule unbeaten, getting a fourth straight shutout and finishing with an unbeaten record here at home," said Paladin head coach Doug Allison. "We played just 48 hours ago and got a great 3-0 victory at Belmont, spent most of yesterday travelling home and had to play 110 minutes tonight, so I know we have some tired players and heavy legs."

Playing its third match in seven days, Furman (7-1-1, 5-0-1 SoCon) extended it scoreless streak to over 425 minutes with its fourth straight clean sheet. The Paladins elected to rest starting goalkeeper Ben Hale, and redshirt-freshman Ben Roberts answered the call with seven saves and a shutout in his first career match.

Wofford (0-7-1, 0-4-1 SoCon) compiled a 16-8 advantage in total shot attempts and 7-3 edge in shots on goal, but neither team was able to create many dangerous chances. Joshua Old stopped three shots to earn a shutout in goal for the Terriers.

The Paladins, who secured their second consecutive SoCon regular season title and 21st in school history with their victory on Tuesday at Belmont, will host a semifinal round match in the SoCon Men's Soccer Championship on Friday, April 9, at 6 p.m. at Stone Stadium. Furman will learn its opponent after the regular season concludes this weekend.

This year's SoCon Men's Soccer Championship will include just the top four teams in the final regular season standings with the top two teams hosting semifinal round matches on the weekend of April 9-10, and the top remaining seed hosting the league championship match on April 17.
