CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- No. 35 Furman rolled to a 6-1 over Chattanooga Thursday at the UTC Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., to remain undefeated in Southern Conference play. With the victory, the Paladins have won 15 out of their last 17 matches and hold Power 5 victories over Alabama, 16th-ranked Wake Forest, No. 18 South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Clemson. Furman is also 4-0 versus teams in South Carolina, having defeated USC, Clemson, Presbyterian, and Wofford.
The Paladins picked up three doubles victories to take the first point. Senior Katarina Kozarov and junior Julia Adams, who rank 16th nationally, blanked Emma Van Hee and Caroline Gibbens, 6-0, at flight one, and junior Madison Dillon and senior MaryAnn Rompf topped Jessie Young and Bogdana Zaporozhets, 6-1, at flight two. At number three, sophomore Maggie Pate and freshman Ellie Schoppe beat Wilma Berqgvist and Callie Billman, 6-3.
Furman won five singles matches, four in straight sets, for the team victory. Seventh-ranked Kozarov downed Young, 6-0, 6-2, in the top-seeded match up, and 77th-ranked Adams defeated Van Hee, 6-4, 6-0, at flight two. At number three, Dillon recorded a 6-3, 6-0 advantage over Polina Goloputova, and Pate outlasted Gibbens, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(2), at number five. Schoppe scored a 6-3, 6-0 win versus Berqgvist at flight six.
Chattanooga (8-6, 1-2 SoCon) scored at flight four, where Zaporozhets held off Rompf, 6-4, 1-6, (10).
Furman (16-6, 4-0 SoCon) will compete at Samford Friday at 2:30 p.m.
