Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw At Wofford; Paladins Finish Regular Season Unbeaten

Furman Improves To 6-0-2

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Furman women's soccer team wrapped up an undefeated regular season with a 1-1 draw versus Wofford on Friday afternoon at Snyder Field in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Paladins, 6-0-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the Southern Conference end their regular season in first place in the league standings. Samford, also 6-0-2, will play at UNCG in its regular season finale on Saturday. Furman was denied the opportunity to play a ninth conference game when ETSU opted out of the season earlier this week.

"We were disappointed to not get the victory today, but I am extremely proud of this team for completing the regular season undefeated," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "Everyone of our players is now focused on our next goal of winning the SoCon Championship."

Sophomore Jasmine Greene opened the scoring for Furman in the 19th minute on an assist from Ellie Laxer, but Wofford's McKenzie Guest evened the score at 25:06 on an assist from Rachel Rasins.

Both teams created chances to score over the final 65 minutes of play. Furman had its best chance to break the deadlock in the 108th minute when a foul in the box led to a Paladin penalty kick. Wofford goalkeeper Maria Mon stepped up to save the spot kick of Isabella Gutierrez, however, to help the Terriers preserve a draw.

Furman managed a 22-12 in total shots and 13-6 margin in shots on target over the 110-minute battle. Addison Corn stopped five shots for the Paladins, while Mon saved 12 for Wofford.

The Paladins have earned one of the top two seeds in the SoCon Women's Soccer Championship and are set to host a semifinal round match on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium on Saturday, April 10. The winners of next weekend's semifinal matches will meet in the SoCon Championship Match on April 17 at the top remaining seed.
