Spartanburg, S.C. – Neci Harris led all players with a match-high 22 kills on Saturday afternoon as the Furman volleyball team completed its preseason schedule against the USC Upstate Spartans from the G.B. Hodge Center.
The teams played all five sets in the exhibition with Furman capturing three and USC Upstate two. The Paladins won the first set 25-15 and followed with a 25-23 win in set two. After the Spartans took the third set 25-17, Furman came back with a 25-22 victory in the fourth. USC Upstate picked up a 16-14 win in the fifth set.
Harris' 22 kills paced the Paladins offensively, while also registering three solo and three assisted blocks, with
Bella Tolone,
Natalie Dunn and
Ava Augustson compiling eight kills apiece.
Sarah Turner and
Ella Abraham combined for 49 assists with Turner dishing out 34 and Abraham 15.
Andrea Aceveda recorded a team-best 10 digs and
Maya Mrus added eight.
Furman concluded the match holding a 59-51 advantage in kills, 56-45 in assists and 58-38 in digs.
The Paladins open their regular season schedule next weekend at the UNCW Hampton Inn University Classic in Wilmington, N.C. Furman is slated to play North Alabama on August 27, and Wake Forest and host UNCW on August 28.
