NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Senior Cameron Ponder broke the 4:00 mark in the mile for the third time in his career Saturday at the 114th Millrose Games in New York, N.Y.
Ponder posted a time of 3:59.48 to place fourth overall and second among collegiate competitors. His time was just .14 seconds off his personal best for the event. Senior Aaron Wier also competed in the event, finishing 12th with a time of 4:14.92.
Select member of the Paladin squad ran at the South Carolina Invitational at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex in Columbia, S.C.
Freshman Matthew Smith led the Paladin men, placing second in the 800m with a time of 1:52.36, while junior Nick Epstein finished eighth with a time of 1:53.80. In the men's 5,000m, Furman placed four men in the top eight, with junior Benjamin Seeber turning in a time of 14:49.90 for fourth place, and junior James Lalonde finishing fifth at 14:58.90. Junior Josh Powers placed sixth with a time of 15:01.50, and freshman Casey Burr crossed the line in 15:03.69 for eighth place.
On the women's side, junior Nicole Matysik finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:14.15, and freshman Callie Harper placed 16th at 2:18.83.
Furman will compete at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., on February 5.
