Davidson, N.C. – Senior
Dylan Lane netted his first goal of the season to help Furman to a 1-1 draw with Davidson Wednesday evening at a rainy Alumni Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
Less than six minutes into the match, Lane took a pass from
Lloyd Wamu Snell and laced a right-footed strike into the left side of the net from over 20 yards out to put the Paladins on the board first. The goal marked the first of the year for the Raleigh, N.C., native and the fifth of his career.
Davidson (4-7-3) dominated possession for much of the game and threatened to level the match several times as Blake Peterson rattled the cross bar less than a minute before halftime and Denis Krioutchenkov pounded a shot off the bar in the 64
th minute. The Wildcats, who managed an 8-0 advantage in shots on target after the restart, finally evened the contest at the 69:40 mark. Jack Brown's free kick from outside the box on the right side found the head of Trey Gardiner who looped a header into the left-hand corner to knot the match.
Over the final 20 minutes, Davidson continued to apply pressure, but Furman's
Ben Roberts, the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, saved four shots down the stretch to preserve the draw. The Houston, Texas, product finished the match with nine saves.
Furman was outshot 18-10 with Davidson holding a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Giacomo Piccardo notched four saves for the Wildcats.
The Paladins (5-3-4, 0-1-1 SoCon) return home Saturday night to host SoCon rival Wofford for Upstate Community Night at Stone Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
