Greenville, S.C. – Nacho Gallego and Ndrin Maloku each scored a goal to carry Presbyterian to a 2-1 victory over Furman men's soccer in the Paladins' non-conference finale Tuesday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.
Gallego opened the scoring just 4:49 into the match when Carson Griffith served a long ball from midfield that the forward ran under and slotted past Furman's
Ben Roberts with a left-footed shot. The go-ahead goal marked Gallego's third score of the campaign.
Furman (5-5-4) leveled the match at the 19:21 mark on an own goal. Senior
Sam Miller played a left footed cross into the box from the left wing that caromed off a PC defender and past the stranded goalkeeper.
The Blue Hose (8-2-3) regained the advantage less than 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. Furman was whistled for a foul in the middle of the box and Ndrin Maloku stepped up to convert the spot kick at 29:13 for the deciding goal.
The Paladins posted a 9-2 edge in total shots in the second half and force PC's Leo Stritter into four second half saves, but Furman was unable to find the equalizing goal. Stritter totaled six saves to earn the victory, while Roberts recorded two stops in 45 minutes and
Cameron Maung-Maung notched one save.
Furman returns to Southern Conference play on Saturday when it travels to Johnson City, Tenn., to face ETSU.
