Furman, Chattanooga Draw In Regular Season Finale, 1-1

Paladins Travel To Wofford In SoCon First Round On Tuesday At 7 P.M.

SoCon Women's Soccer Championship Bracket

Greenville, S.C. –
Furman and Chattanooga played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon in the Southern Conference women's soccer regular season finale for both schools on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium.

With the tie, Chattanooga (7-5-5, 5-1-3 SoCon) secured a share of the SoCon regular season title and the No. 1 seed for this week's SoCon Women's Soccer Championship. The Mocs will receive a first-round bye and host a quarterfinal round tilt on Friday, October 28.

Furman finished the regular season with an 8-8-2 overall record and 3-4-2 SoCon worksheet. The Paladins are the No. 9 seed and travel to face No. 8 seed Wofford on Tuesday, October 25, at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Paladins grabbed the early lead against the run of play in the 24th minute. Junior Nieva Gaither cut in from the left wing before slipping a pass through the back line to Hannah Farr. The forward fired into the right-hand side of the net at the 23:46 mark for her third goal of the campaign.

Chattanooga managed a 10-4 edge in shot attempts in the first half and nearly leveled the match late in the period, but Nora Sampson tipped a Mocs' shot off the crossbar with a leaping effort and the follow-up shot was waved off for offside.

The Mocs found the equalizer in the 70th minute on McKenzie Smith's fifth goal of the season. Zoey Mize curled a corner kick into the six-yard box near the far side of the goal and Smith rose above her defender to nod a shot past Sampson.

Chattanooga finished with a 20-7 advantage in total shots and 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Carolina Ekern stopped five shots in goal for the Mocs, while Sampson turned away eight shots for the Paladins.
