Greenville, S.C. – No. 9 seed Furman scored with less than six minutes remaining in regulation, but eighth-seeded Wofford held on to eliminate the Paladins, 2-1, in the opening round of the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tuesday evening at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Terriers (9-7-3) advance to face No. 1 seed Chattanooga in the quarterfinal round on Friday night in Chattanooga, Tenn. Furman concludes its season at 8-9-2.

Ashlyn Goila whipped into the box at the near post.
Helen Gutierrez flicked a header into the center of the net to halve the Terrier lead with her third goal of the season, but the Paladins were unable to level the match in the final moments.
"It's certainly a frustrating way to end the season, especially for this group of seniors," said Paladin head coach
Andrew Burr. "We'll take some time off, evaluate what has happened, and begin preparations for next year. Thank you to everyone who has shown us so much support this season."
After the Terriers denied Furman's
Nieva Gaither an early goal by clearing her header off the goal line in the opening minutes, Wofford took the lead just 16:16 into the match. Lexi Reichenbach played a pass to Megan Childress in the box. She settled the ball and fired a shot between two defenders that found the left side of the net for her first goal of the season.
Just 1:35 later, Mia Bookhard stole the ball in the midfield and lined a long range shot past Paladin goalkeeper
Nora Sampson at the 17:51 mark to double the Terriers' lead.
Carolina Doss stopped six shots to earn the victory in goal for the Terriers. Sampson, playing her final match as a Paladin, recorded three saves.
Wofford scored on its first two shots of the contest, but Furman finished with a 17-11 advantage in total shots, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal.
