Women's Soccer Hosts The Citadel In Thursday Cancer Awareness Match

Kickoff Set For 7 P.M.; Pink Jerseys To Be Auctioned

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's soccer team will host its Cancer Awareness Match on Thursday night on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium when the Paladins entertain The Citadel Bulldogs in the Southern Conference home opener.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are available at FurmanPaladins.com or can be purchased at the Stone Stadium entrance beginning one hour prior match time. Thursday's contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live statistics provided through StatBroadcast at FurmanPaladins.com.

"It's an honor for our team to host the Cancer Awareness Match once again this season," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "This awful disease touches everyone in some way and has certainly affected our Furman women's soccer family several times in recent years. Our team wants to do its part in raising awareness and we want to support those battling cancer or caring for someone who is fighting this disease. We hope to see everyone at Stone Stadium on Thursday to show their support and be a part of a special halftime ceremony."

Furman women's soccer will hold a special dedication ceremony at halftime of Thursday's game in memory of Lorelei Goila, the late mother of Paladin sophomore Ashlyn Goila. Lorelei lost her battle with cancer in September of 2021. Goila was a cheerleader and member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority as a student at Furman, where she also met her husband Tom, who was a member of the Furman football team.

The Paladins will wear pink jerseys for Thursday's match and fans will be able to bid on the jerseys at the stadium and online during the first half of the match. Winners of the auction will be announced at halftime.

Thursday's match marks the 24th all-time meeting between the Paladins and the Bulldogs with Furman holding a 21-2-0 series lead. Furman has won eight straight meetings. Last season, the Paladins claimed a 4-0 regular season victory in Charleston, S.C., before topping The Citadel 2-1 in the SoCon Tournament quarterfinals in Greenville.

Furman enters the weekend at 7-4-1 overall and 2-0-1 in league play following a 0-0 draw at Wofford last Thursday evening. The Citadel is 6-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play. The Bulldogs upset preseason SoCon favorite Samford to open conference play before falling at Chattanooga.
