JONESBOROUGH, TENN. -- Furman sophomore Will Morlan (-4) shot a 68 Sunday to sit in a tie for second after the opening round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, while is being hosted by East Tennessee State, at the par 72, 7,147 yard Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tenn.

Morlan, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., teed off on No. 10 and birdied his first hole then turned at even par.  He added four additional birdies on the front, including consecutive birdies on No. 4 and No. 5, to tie for second with eight other players, just two shots back of leader Algot Kleen (-6) of ETSU, who fired a 66 in round one.

Senior Sam Lape (-1) shot a 71 with four birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 13 and No. 14, to enter Monday's second round tied for 20th, while senior Walker Crosby (+1), who led the Paladins with six birdies, carded a 73 to tie for 38th.  Crosby notched consecutive birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 to open the round, then birdied three out of four holes from No. 2 through No. 5.  

Senior Ross Funderburke (+2) is tied for 48th after shooting a 74 with birdies on No. 7 and No. 14, and junior Mac Scott (+3) finished the first round tied for 58th after recording a 75 with three birdies.  

Senior Reynolds Lambert (+3), who is competing as an individual, tallied a 75 with three birdies to tie for 58th after Sunday's round. 

Host ETSU (-11) holds a two-stroke lead after one round of play.  Cincinnati (-9) and Georgia Southern (-9) are tied for second, while Missouri (-4) is in fourth place.  Furman (-2) is tied for fifth with Middle Tennessee State (-2), College of Charleston (-2), and Augusta (-2).

Furman led the field with a 3.98 scoring average on the par 4s and tied for fifth with a 4.65 average on the par 5s.

The Paladins will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 10:20 a.m. Monday in the second round of the 54-hole tournament and will play in a group with Middle Tennessee State and Missouri.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via http://www.FurmanPaladins.com and http://www.golfstat.com.
