DELAND, FLA. -- Alyssa Hargrove scored a game high 25 points and Stetson used a strong second quarter to pull away en route to a 77-61 victory over Furman in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
The win improves Stetson to 3-2 on the season while Furman falls to 2-2 on the campaign. Â The Paladins play at Florida on Monday in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
Furman led 16-13 after one quarter and went up 27-26 on a
Jaelyn Acker 3-pointer with 4:43 remaining in the first half. Â From that point, however, Stetson used a 9-0 run to go up 35-27, capped by a Peete Jordan 3-point play with less than a minute remaining. Â A pair of
Kennedy Grier free throws pulled Furman to within 35-29 at the break.
The Hatters took command in the third quarter, opening the frame with an 11-3 spurt to go up 46-32 on a Jaelyn Alley jump shot midway through the period.
Hargrove connected on 10-of-16 shots, including 3-of-5 3-pointers and pair of free throws for her 25 points. Â Jaelyn Alley followed with 17 points, and Kiya Turner finished with 12.
Stetson outscored Furman 48-18 in the paint.
The Paladins were led by
Grace van Rij with 12 points. Â Acker and
Jada Session followed with 11 points apiece.
