Greenville, S.C. – Furman's freshmen duo of
Morgan Cobb and
Lauren Haynes were selected to the 2022 SoCon Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Paladins to the championship match on Sunday afternoon.
Furman, who was the eighth seed in last week's SoCon Volleyball Championship, advanced to the championship match for the first time since 2015 after defeating UNC Greensboro, East Tennessee State, and Chattanooga. For the second consecutive year, the Paladins knocked off the tournament's top seed when it secured a 3-1 win over East Tennessee State in the quarterfinals on November 18.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Cobb tied for second on the team at the SoCon Volleyball Championship with 49 kills and hit a team best .307 for the tournament. She recorded double-digit kills in two of the four matches highlighted by a career high 18 on November 19 when Furman won 3-2 against Chattanooga in the semifinals. Cobb also added a 15-kill performance in a 3-1 quarterfinal win versus East Tennessee State on November 18. She finished the season fifth on the team with 124 kills.
Haynes, a native of Smyrna, Ga., led the Paladins with 54 kills, on .258 hitting, and ranked second with 62 digs at the SoCon Volleyball Championship. The SoCon All-Freshman Team performer registered double-doubles in three of the four matches. She set a career high with 22 digs during the first round on November 14 as Furman topped UNC Greensboro in four sets. Haynes contributed 19 kills in the semifinals to help lead the Paladins to a 3-2 win over Chattanooga. She led Furman this season with 273 kills and was second for digs at 335. Haynes recorded a total of six double-doubles throughout the year.
