Furman Wraps up Fall Schedule at Southern Conference Fall Championship

Paladins Begin Spring Season in January

Belton, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team concluded its 2022 fall season this weekend at the Southern Conference Fall Championship from the Belton Tennis Center.

The teams began tournament play on Friday before the final two days were canceled due to inclement weather. The Paladins were one of five teams that competed at the tournament along with Chattanooga, The Citadel, UNC Greensboro, and Wofford.

Furman had eight players competing at the event in Cole Burnam, Ben Cahill, Alex Han, Connor Laymon, Chad Nash, John Rado, Cole Rigsby and Jason Smith.

Rado led the Paladins in singles play advancing to the quarterfinals after winning two matches on Friday. The sophomore defeated UNC Greensboro's Devon Moskowitz 6-2, 6-2 and Ian Rasheed of Wofford 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in straight sets to make it to the quarterfinal round.

Furman also received singles wins from Nash, Cahill, Laymon and Han on Friday. Nash defeated David Flisberg of UNC Greensboro 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-1 while Cahill won 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 over The Citadel's Ted Bagwell. Laymon added a straight-set victory against Bradey Minnich of The Citadel 6-4, 6-2 and Han won 6-2, 6-2 versus UNC Greensboro's Michael Gwynn.

In the doubles bracket, the Paladins collected two wins from the combinations of Han/Cahill and Rigsby/Rado to proceed into the quarterfinals. Han/Cahill earned a 6-0 victory against Minnich and Sebastian Kamienicki of The Citadel while Rigsby/Rado knocked off The Citadel's Bagwell/Tucker Hendrix 7-6 (8-6).

Furman begins its 2023 spring season in January.
