Furman Tops Anderson In Non-Conference Finale, 106-79

Pegues Scores A Season-High 20 Points

Greenville, S.C. – Sophomore JP Pegues scored a career-high 20 points to lead five Paladins in double figures as Furman topped NCAA Division II Anderson, 106-79, Monday evening at Timmons Arena.
 
The Paladins (9-4), winners of seven of their last nine games, poured in a season-high 60 second half points and shot 58% from the field over the final 20 minutes to pull away from the Trojans. Furman forced 18 turnovers, which led to 27 points, and connected on 17 three-pointers for the game.
 
Anderson jumped out to a 19-14 lead before Marcus Foster scored eight points during a 10-0 run that gave the Paladins the lead for good. Garrett Hien scored six points and Ben Vanderwal added five to help Furman to a 13-4 run over the opening 2:15 of the second half to stretch the margin to 59-50.
 
Pegues drained five three-pointers and dished out six assists to go with his 20 points on the night. Jalen Slawson scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Foster finished with 17 points. Hien posted 14 points and VanderWal established a new career-high with 13 points on a 7-for-7 effort at the foul line.
 
Furman shot 50.7% from the field and converted on 19-of-24 trips to the foul line, while recording a season-high 26 assists. The Paladin bench outscored Anderson 32-8.
 
Myles Jenkins scored a career-high 27 to lead Anderson, and Garrett and Luke Denbow added 18 and 13, respectively. The Trojans shot 49.2% and connected on 10-of-25 triples.
