Furman's Miller, Johanning Reap AFCA All-America Honors

Paladins Produce Three All-Americans In 2022

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman tight end Ryan Miller and offensive guard Jacob Johanning have been named to the 2022 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS)?Coaches' All-America Team, announced today by the American Football Coaches Association.

Miller, a 6-foot-2, 209-pound fifth-year performer from Jackson, Tenn. (University School of Jackson), was named to the first team, while Johanning, a 6-foot-3, 276-pound redshirt junior from Simpsonville, S.C. (St. Joseph's School), earned second team honors.

Miller's selection makes him a consensus All-American, after earlier earning first team honors as announced by the Associated Press, Stats Perform, ADA FCS, and Hero Sports.  He is the first three-time All-American in Furman football history.

He caught 72 passes for 762 yards and a school season record 12 touchdowns this season in helping Furman to a 10-3 record and second round appearance in the FCS Playoffs.

Miller played in 54 games and made 43 starts during his Paladin tenure on the way to recording 151 receptions for 2,146 yards and a Furman career standard 28 touchdown catches.  He tied a 53-year-old Furman standard when he caught 13 passes, including a 25-yard touchdown grab, against then-FBS fifth-ranked Clemson on Sept. 10.  He recorded 15 touchdown catches in his last 16 games.

Like Miller, Johanning was a consensus first team All-Southern Conference pick this year in voting by head coaches and media.  He logged 903 play participations and helped front one of the FCS's most effective ground attacks that averaged 212.8 yards per game while producing a 1,120-yard, 10-touchdown campaign by All-SoCon running back Dominic Roberto.

The Paladins posted a 7-1 Southern Conference mark and finished the regular season ranked No. 11 in both AFCA and Stats Perform Top 25 Polls.

Miller and Johanning were among three Paladins to garner All-America honors in 2022, a group that also included redshirt senior offensive tackle Anderson Tomlin, who was selected to the Associated Press All-America Third Team.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently picks teams in all five of its divisions.
