Greenville, S.C. – Former Furman soccer standout Laurence Wyke has signed with MLS side Nashville SC on a one-year deal with club options for 2023 and 2024, the club announced on Thursday.
The Bolton, England, native appeared in 66 matches over the last two seasons for the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL Championship. He netted six goals and added eight assists over the last two years while leading the club in tackles during the 2021 season.
In two seasons at Furman, Wyke was a two-time All-Southern Conference selection and garnered SoCon Player of the Year honors in 2017. The Paladin midfielder netted seven goals, including five match-winning scores, as a senior in 2018 to help the Paladins to a 13-7-2 record, SoCon Tournament title, and NCAA Tournament second round appearance. In addition to earning All-SoCon honors, the senior was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region squad. He also earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region and Scholar All-American honors.
Wyke scored an overtime goal in the SoCon semifinals to advance Furman to the league championship as a senior. He helped guide the Paladins to a 3-0 victory over UNCG in the SoCon championship match, Furman's third league crown in five years, before converting from the penalty spot as Furman advanced past UNCW in a penalty shootout in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
After beginning his professional career with Atlanta United 2 in 2019, Wyke earned a spot on the Atlanta United FC roster in 2020 and made seven appearances for the MLS club.
The Paladins now have three players on MLS rosters with goalkeeper Alec Kann in Cincinnati and Wyke joining former Paladin and United States National Team member Walker Zimmerman on the Nashville SC roster.
